More Than Boxing: Building Confidence, Resilience and Community for Kids in Geelong

Oct 04, 2025

At Geelong Boxing Club, we know boxing is far more than just a sport. Parents across North Geelong told us exactly what they want for their kids—and we listened. The results were clear: families are looking for confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, respect, and a safe community where their kids feel they belong.

That’s why our kids and teens programs aren’t “just boxing classes.” They’re evidence-based, trauma-informed, and designed around what matters most to local families.

What Parents Asked For—and How We Deliver

When we surveyed caregivers in our community, these were the top priorities they identified:

1. Confidence and Self-Belief

Parents want kids who back themselves. Through pad work, drills, and structured routines, we build courage and persistence. Every child leaves our sessions taller—physically and emotionally.

2. Emotional Regulation

Parents see their kids struggle with overwhelm and frustration. Our sessions embed practical tools—breathing, grounding, urge-surfing—that kids can use in real life. These aren’t abstract “wellbeing lessons.” They’re transferable skills for school, home, and beyond.

3. Respect and Discipline

Caregivers want discipline, but not punishment. We teach boundaries through consistency, structure, and encouragement—not shame or fear. Kids learn respect for themselves and others in every round.

4. Connection and Belonging

Parents know kids need safe friendships and role models. Our programs create a culture of teamwork, trust, and inclusion. No mirrors. No trophies. No comparison culture. Every child belongs.

5. Resilience

North Geelong families know life isn’t always easy. Boxing is the perfect metaphor—kids learn to take a hit and come back stronger. That grit stays with them long after training.

Why Geelong Boxing Club Is Different

Many youth programs run kids until they’re sweaty and call it fitness. We go further.

  • Evidence-based approach: Backed by over 15 years of education experience and postgraduate study in child + adolescent mental health.

  • Lived expertise: Coached by Steve Moxon, two-time world champion, who brings real-world grit and mentoring to every session.

  • Community-first model: As a socially prescribed gym, we exist to meet the unique needs of families in 3214 and 3215, not to churn out short-term programs.

  • Trauma-informed practice: Every session is designed with safety, accessibility, and empowerment at its core.

We don’t just train kids’ bodies—we support their minds, their emotions, and their futures.

Part of the Village

At Geelong Boxing Club, we believe it takes a village to raise strong, steady young people. Every glove, every round, every reflection is about raising kids who can regulate their emotions, connect with others, and believe in themselves.

Parents told us what they needed, and we built it into every single session. That’s why families across North Geelong are choosing Geelong Boxing Club—not just for fitness, but for real growth, resilience, and belonging.

Because our kids deserve more than short-term fixes. They deserve a future. And we’re here to fight for it with them.
