Boxing & Mentoring for Ages 13–16

What to Expect

Our Boys Only Boxing Program runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30 – 5:15 pm. Designed specifically for 13–16 year olds, this program develops boxing skills in a safe, structured, and positive environment.

How We Deliver It

Skill Development, Not Fighting

Every session focuses on technique, pad work, bag work, and fitness drills. Boys learn the fundamentals of boxing : stance, guard, footwork, coordination, while also developing emotional regulation, discipline, and teamwork.

There is no full contact sparring. Instead, boys build confidence through skill mastery, safe practice, and structured challenges.

Why This Program is the Gold Standard

What makes this program exceptional isn’t just the boxing. It’s the combined expertise of owners and facilitators Steve and Lena Moxon, a two time World Champion’s discipline paired with an educator and child and adolescent mental health practitioner’s evidence based approach. Together, they have built programs that shape schools, influence regional wellbeing strategies, and deliver lasting impact across Geelong.

This is not a fight program and it is not built on competition. It’s a carefully designed, evidence based framework proven to support boys in ways that work. At its core is mentorship, regulation, and growth delivered by leaders at the top of their fields. The Teen Boys Program is the gold benchmark for boxing based youth development: a space where 13–16 year olds build confidence, character, and connection under facilitators who embody the very values they teach.

Through boxing as a vehicle, we deliver:
âś… Safe, structured training with no full contact sparring,
âś… Mentorship and positive role models,
âś… Evidence based youth development (PYD),
âś… A strong sense of community and belonging,
âś… Clear Rights & Responsibilities to ensure a safe and respectful culture.

Community & Belonging

Training together fosters trust, connection, and a sense of belonging. Boys see themselves as part of something bigger, a team, a club, and a community that values them.

All teens must understand and adhere to Geelong Boxing Club’s Rights & Responsibilities within their sessions. These guidelines ensure that every participant contributes to a positive, respectful, and safe training environment. By committing to these expectations, teens can get the most out of their training while fostering personal growth, discipline, and resilience.

Meet Your Facilitators : Steve & Lena Moxon

Steve Moxon : Two Time World Champion, Mentor, and Coach

Steve Moxon is more than a former two time World Champion fighter. He has spent over a decade building Geelong Boxing Club into a hub for community strength, discipline, and belonging. Steve brings not only elite level boxing knowledge, but also a rare ability to mentor young people with firm guidance and genuine care.

From fighting on the world stage to coaching teens in North Geelong, Steve’s mission is clear: to make boxing accessible, safe, and empowering for the next generation. His presence in the gym gives boys a role model who embodies discipline, resilience, and hard earned success, without ego or bravado.

Lena Moxon : Educator, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Practitioner, Program Designer

Lena is the founder of Beyond Boxing and a highly respected child and adolescent mental health practitioner, holding a Bachelor of Education and postgraduate qualifications in Child & Adolescent Mental Health. With over 15 years’ experience as an educator and coach, she designs programs that combine evidence based frameworks with real world impact.

Her work extends far beyond the gym:

  • Facilitating school based programs across Geelong,

  • Partnering with councils, youth services, and multicultural groups,

  • Serving on panels shaping the 2025–2029 Health & Wellbeing Plan for the region,

  • Leading Beyond Boxing, a socially prescribed program grounded in Positive Youth Development, resilience building, and somatic regulation.

Lena is recognised locally and nationally for her trauma informed approach and her ability to create safe, structured environments where young people feel seen, supported, and capable of growth.

Our Framework: Positive Youth Development

We use the Positive Youth Development (PYD) model, a strengths based framework built around the “5 C’s”:

  • Competence – developing boxing skills, coordination, and fitness,

  • Confidence – building self-belief through structured progression,

  • Connection – belonging to a team and strong mentor relationships,

  • Character – learning discipline, respect, and responsibility,

  • Caring – growing empathy and awareness of others.

From this foundation, boys also move towards Contribution using their skills and strengths to give back to their community.
