Beyond the Headlines: Corio, Norlane & North Geelong Deserve More Than Stereotypes

Oct 08, 2025

Proudly raising my family and contributing to this community in North Geelong (postcode 3214) where real change doesn’t come from policy papers or photo ops, but from people who stay, build, and believe.

When people talk about disadvantage in Corio, Norlane, and North Geelong, they usually stop at the statistics.

📊 Facts first:
• Around 22 % of homes in Norlane are public housing, compared to less than 4 % nationally.
• Only about 23 % of residents complete Year 12, roughly half the Victorian average.
• Education, housing, and employment gaps overlap here — the result of decades of systemic neglect, not lack of effort.

These numbers don’t tell the full story — they tell us where support is needed most.
Because behind every statistic in North Geelong and Corio are some of the most resilient, community-minded, and loyal people you’ll ever meet.

I live here.
I’m raising my son here.
And I have no intention of moving anywhere else.

Every day, I see how connection, structure, and genuine care can change a young person’s trajectory.
I’ve seen neighbours show up for each other, kids keep trying even when the system fails them, and families rebuild from the ground up.

Through my work with young people and families across North Geelong, Corio, and Norlane, I help them regulate, connect, and believe that who they are, and where they’re from, are not limitations, but foundations.

So yes, call this area “disadvantaged” if you must.
But when you talk about disadvantage, also talk about potential and the kind of investment that honours the people who’ve been showing up long before the spotlight landed.

Because North Geelong isn’t broken, it’s just been underestimated.
