Beyond Boxing : Term 3 Reflections at a Secondary School in North Geelong

Sep 18, 2025

This term, we worked with the Year 9 & 10 cohort through our Beyond Boxing program, a program designed to engage students differently and strengthen their capacity for social and emotional regulation.

What stood out most wasn’t just the boxing, it was what happened around it.

Key outcomes we observed:

-Students engaged respectfully, mindfully, and constructively with one another.

-Focus, concentration, and presence grew significantly since the start of the year.

-Emotional regulation strategies, embedded into boxing activities, became second nature.

-Peer encouragement and support strengthened group culture.

-Students felt safe enough to disclose and share, reflecting the trust being built.

-Staff feedback confirmed what we witnessed: this program is “turn key,” seamlessly fitting into wellbeing frameworks while aligning directly with school values.

 Looking ahead to Term 4:

We’ll be supporting students to:

-Clarify their personal values and understand how these influence behaviour in groups.

-Strengthen emotional regulation through somatic support: movement based strategies that reinforce focus, self management, and relational trust.

This work directly supports the Victorian Curriculum Personal & Social Capability, building:

  •  Self Awareness
  •  Self Management
  •  Social Awareness
  •  Social Management

Why it matters: Adolescence is a critical period for identity formation. A program that combines engagement, somatic regulation, and values development builds resilience, belonging, and wellbeing.

We’re proud to see young people step into this space with courage and commitment and even prouder to support them in learning how to regulate, connect, and thrive.
