Different Point of View – Different Result

“Listen to your body”

“Work the internal cues”

You may have heard these things before! It is commonplace in gyms to be told that focusing on internal cues when performing movements is the best way to maintain good form.

However – adopting the right mindset does not necessarily mean you have to become an introvert on the gym floor! External cues and visuals can provide the stimulus and deep understanding of movements you need to help you to complete more repetitions within a session.

Simply going through the motions or switching off during training will not produce the best results (and is certainly not the safest way to train!)

It is important you speak up and let a trainer know if you are finding any (or all!!) of the movements difficult. Often the right prompts or cues can provide the right support to overcome the challenges or barriers holding you back.

In the meantime, here are some quick and easy ways to change your mindset, focus and performance when you train!

Pull Up:

Think about pulling the bar straight down towards the floor

Squat:

Push the floor away and apart with the balls of your feet

 Plank:

Imagine you have a glass of water (or red wine!) on your head and your hips – don’t let it spill!

Push Up:

Push away from the ground. Focus on the palms of your hand driving your body away from the floor.
