Welcome to Girls Beyond Boxing

Welcome

We are so excited to welcome your daughter to Girls Beyond Boxing at Geelong Boxing Club.

Over the next three weeks, she'll be part of a small, supportive group where movement becomes a way to build confidence, emotional awareness, resilience and self-belief. This isn't about being the strongest or the fittest. It's about discovering what it feels like to trust yourself, take up space and develop skills that extend well beyond the gym.

Whether your daughter has boxed before or has never stepped into a gym, she is welcome exactly as she is.

Meet Your Facilitator

Lena Moxon

Hi, I'm Lena.

I'm an educator, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practitioner and trauma informed facilitator with more than 16 years of experience supporting young people and families. My background combines education, adolescent mental health, emotional regulation and somatic (body-based) approaches to wellbeing.

Alongside my husband Steve, I co own Geelong Boxing Club, where we've created an environment that uses boxing as a vehicle for confidence, resilience and wellbeing rather than competition or aggression. We have been boxing for over 20 years and LOVE sharing it with people in our community.

What to Expect

Every session combines movement, boxing and practical wellbeing skills in a fun, encouraging environment.

Together we'll explore:

  • Boxing fundamentals and technique
  • Footwork and coordination
  • Pad work and combinations
  • Emotional regulation through movement
  • Somatic tracking (learning to notice what our body is telling us)
  • Building confidence and healthy boundaries
  • Developing agency by making choices, listening to ourselves and trusting our instincts
  • Working as part of a respectful, encouraging team

What We Mean by Somatic Tracking

Our bodies are constantly giving us information.

Throughout the program the girls will learn simple ways to notice things like breathing, tension, energy, emotions and physical sensations without needing to "fix" them.

This helps develop greater self awareness, emotional regulation and confidence in responding to life's challenges.

Building Agency

One of the most important things we hope every girl leaves with is a stronger sense of agency.

Agency means recognising that:

  • My body belongs to me.
  • My voice matters.
  • I can make choices.
  • I can set boundaries.
  • I can learn new things, even when they feel hard.
  • I am capable.

These are skills that support young people well beyond the gym.

A Safe Environment

Parents often ask whether there is any contact boxing.

The answer is no.

This program is completely non contact.

There is:

  • No sparring
  • No hitting other participants
  • No physical contact between the girls

Instead, participants learn boxing skills using pads, bags and movement drills in a safe and supportive environment.

Helping Your Daughter Feel Comfortable

Starting something new can feel exciting and sometimes a little nerve-wracking.

It's completely normal for young people to feel unsure before walking into a new environment or meeting a new coach.

You can help by reminding your daughter that:

  • Everyone is new at some point.
  • She doesn't need to be good at boxing.
  • She can go at her own pace.
  • Questions are always welcome.
  • Our focus is learning, not perfection.
  • We care far more about courage than performance.

We'll do everything we can to help each participant feel welcomed, included and supported from the moment they arrive.
