1:1 non contact boxing & self defence sessions for young women aged 12–25 at Geelong Boxing Club as Therapeutic Support
Most personal development stops at understanding. This is where it starts becoming real.
She may already be in therapy. She understands herself. She can explain her patterns and where they came from.
But when pressure hits in real life, the old reactions still show up.
That’s not because the work hasn’t helped. It’s because insight alone isn’t enough. Your body also needs to learn how to respond differently.
That’s where boxing comes in.
Through structured boxing training, you practise staying calm under pressure, trusting your instincts, and taking up space again. It’s a way to turn what you understand in your mind into something your body can actually do.
WHY BOXING WORKS
Because the nervous system learns by doing — not by understanding.
Therapy builds insight. It creates the cognitive and emotional framework for change. That work is real and it matters.
But the nervous system doesn't reorganise through insight alone. It reorganises through experience — through repeatedly doing something different in the body until that becomes the new default.
Non contact boxing creates those conditions. The physical challenge is real. The nervous system activates. Patterns that show up in life show up in the boxing drills - hesitation, self doubt, the urge to shrink — and she gets to practice responding differently, in real time, with her whole body.
Over time, that practice becomes something therapy alone rarely produces:
- Emotional regulation that holds under real pressure — not just in a calm room
- A body she recognises as her own, that she can trust
- The physical experience of holding her ground — not just knowing she should
- Confidence built from the inside out, through what she's actually done
What happens in a session
Sessions run for 90 minutes at Geelong Boxing Club, 4/53 Douro Street, North Geelong.
The space is private. No group classes running. No spectators. No noise or distractions.
Just you, the training, and the work.
Geelong Boxing Club is a preferred supplier of youth programs for the City of Greater Geelong, and the same grounded, evidence informed approach that underpins that work is brought into these sessions.
The goal is simple: to take the insight and personal work she has already done and help her embody it through structured boxing training.
Orient & Settle in Private Space
Body first check in. She sets an intention that is hers alone.
Boxing & Somatic Explorations
Non contact boxing drills rhythm, accuracy, boundary, expression. Her nervous system activates. Her patterns become visible.
Somatic Reflection & Integration
What did her body just do in there? What does it mean outside the gym?

WHO THIS IS FOR
She's already done the hard part. This is where it starts to integrate.
These sessions work best for young women who have already engaged in therapy, counselling, coaching, or sustained personal reflection — and are ready for the next step.
She understands herself. She can see her patterns clearly. What she's looking for is the felt experience of actually being different, not just knowing she could be.
She might be rebuilding after a period that cost her a lot. She might have spent time in situations where her needs came last, where she stopped trusting her own instincts, where the version of herself she wants to be felt very far away.
She might simply be ready for a different kind of practice, one that happens in the body, not just in the mind.
No boxing experience. No fitness level required. Just a genuine readiness to show up and do something different.
FOR THERAPISTS AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
Where the work your client has done in therapy gets to land in the body.
The clients who benefit most from this work are those who have already built insight and self-awareness through therapy. They understand their patterns. They have the language. What they often need next is a structured environment where the nervous system can catch up with what the mind already knows.
These sessions provide exactly that. Using non-contact boxing and somatic practice, Lena creates the conditions for clients to rehearse new responses physically, building the embodied regulation and confidence that extends and deepens therapeutic work.
This isn't an alternative to therapy. It's what can happen when therapy has laid the groundwork and the body is ready to do its part.
Lena maintains clear scope of practice boundaries and welcomes communication with referring practitioners where it supports the client. Geelong Boxing Club is a preferred supplier of youth programs for the City of Greater Geelong, the private training environment at 4/53 Douro Street, North Geelong is designed specifically for focused, individual work.
MEET LENA MOXON
Fifteen years in education and youth development. A boxing gym in Geelong. And a very specific gap she kept noticing.
Lena Moxon is a child and adolescent mental health practitioner, former classroom teacher, and co owner of Geelong Boxing Club — alongside her husband former two time World Champion Steve Moxon. Based at 4/53 Douro Street, North Geelong, the club is a preferred supplier of youth programs for the City of Greater Geelong.
For fifteen years she watched young people develop genuine insight into themselves through therapy and personal work and still struggle to change how they responded when pressure appeared. The understanding was there. The felt experience hadn't followed. That gap became the foundation of this work.
These sessions bring together boxing, nervous system science, and evidence based developmental practice. Not as a metaphor. As the actual work.
